No Smoking Day was held earlier this month in Wales, and a poll taken to celebrate the day surveyed 1,000 vapers and smokers. According to the South Wales Argus, 65 percent of e-cigarette users polled had quit smoking, with 63 percent saying that they’re using vaping as an aid to stop smoking.
Seventy percent of vapers said they would like to see more research done “into the potential risks of using e-cigarettes,” while 26 percent were confused about the mixed health messages they receive regarding e-cigarettes.
Mike Knapton, associate medical director at BHF, told the South Wales Argus: “Although vaping is much less harmful than smoking cigarettes, there is no doubt that more research is needed into the potential long term effects of the use of e-cigarettes.”
Nearly one in five adults has been reported to being a smoker in the U.K. No Smoking Day is similar to the Great American Smoke Out, where smokers can set a date to quit.
