Illinois Minor Law to Change in June

illinoisAs of June 1, minors under the age of 18 who have an e-cigarette will be subject to a fine of $25 or 15 hours of community service for the first violation, according to WAND17. The maximum penalty will be $100 and 30 hours of community service, which are equal to the penalties that are imposed on minors in Illinois who are caught with tobacco products. Governor Bruce Rauner signed the bill in mid-February, and it was sponsored by State Senator Julie Morrison of Deerfield.

Morrison told WAND17 that the “law will protect underage children from the dangers of a product that is becoming very popular.”

Illinois is one of 48 states with a minor ban law.
